earth/air/water urn

<< PREVIOUS | NEXT >>

Large urn that was designed by the National Youth Committee and made as a gift for the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of the United States in 2000. View of the urn with the inlaid calligraphy which reads, in Persian, "a lighted candle" (or sham' afrukhteh).

A closer view of the urn, with two of the nine beads that appear on the rim. The banded decoration and calligraphy turned out to be a dark gray after firing.

A close-up of the calligraphy, which was designed and traced onto the clay by Nikan Milani. Any mistakes are my fault (when I did the carving and inlaying) and not his.

Glaze: sea clear, with gray mason stain inlaid calligraphy
Dimensions: 28" diam., 14" height
